About
The Chill Pill was borne out of the author's frustration with what passes for discussion today - its clichéd and predictable responses , its repetitive and parroted talking points and the woeful absence of original thought.
To co-exist, we need dialogue - the art of balancing (sometimes very different) view points. This, in turn, requires an openness to realities other than one's own, an ability to listen and a willingness to learn; it means being curious about what makes other people tick, and letting go of the need to be right. It also asks of us the capacity to look inward, the ability to entertain an idea without having to endorse it, the honesty to question whether something is true or just a long-held belief, and a willingness to change one's mind.
Faced with a constant barrage of propaganda - be it via the mainstream media, politicians or web ads tailored to target our very needs - critical thinking has never been more endangered, nor more important than it is now. It need not be complicated, or abstract, or inaccessible - on the contrary. One must only take the emotion out of the equation and consider all aspects in order to reach a point of inner consensus, resulting in greater personal authenticity, accountability, integrity and therefore freedom.
The Chill Pill aims to cool down the collective tempers by dissecting some of the current issues, peeling back the layers and getting to the crux of the matter so as to build a bridge to, and between, those who would rather dig in their heels at each end. It hopes to offer alternative perspectives, so that we may, at worst, agree to disagree and at best, come together on this path we all share with a greater understanding and an eye on improved communication and cooperation.
